The Palais d’Iéna, a significant artistic venue, was designed by the architect Auguste Perret between 1937 and 1946 to host temporary painting exhibitions. Since 1959 the Palais d’Iéna is the headquarters of the economic, social and environmental Council. It has recently begun to house special events and its Hypostyle room will host the project PEARLS OF THE NORTH.

New Bank for the Lehman Brothers is a sculpture that consist of 3 objects that should be regarded as architectural models (scale 1 : 100) for buildings: a new bank for the Lehman Brothers. Before declaring bankruptcy in 2008, Lehman was the fourth largest investment bank in the USA. The bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers remains the largest bankruptcy filing in the US history and is in that sense in many ways exemplary for the current economical state of affairs in the US and Europe.

Nieuwe Bank voor The Lehman Brothers in Palais d‘Iena, Paris

Het Palais d’Iena, is een belangrijke tentoonstellingsruimte die tussen 1937 en 1946 is ontworpen door architect Auguste Perret om wisselende tentoonstellingen voor schilderkunst in te houden. Sinds 1959 dient het Palais d’Iena als hoofdkwartier voor de Raad voor economische, sociale en milieuzaken. Onlangs heeft het de deuren weer geopend voor het publiek voor speciale evenementen en in de Hypostyle ruimte is in oktober 2011 de tentoonstelling de tentoonstelling PEARLS OF THE NORTH te zien.

Nieuwe bank voor The Lehman Brothers is een beeld dat bestaat uit 3 delen die gezien moeten worden als architectuur modellen voor een nieuwe bank voor The Lehman Brothers (schaal 1: 100) Lehman Brothers was tot aan haar faillissement in september 2008 de op 4 na grootste Amerikaanse investeringsbank. De faillissement aanvraag van de bank op 14 september 2008 is de grootste uit de Amerikaanse geschiedenis en het faillissement is exemplarisch voor de huidige economische malaise in zowel de VS als Europa.

Commissioned by SKOR en TU-e,  2003

Arno Pronk, member of the TU/e, is of the opinion that the building industry does not possess the material or technical resources needed to realize extreme computer generated architectonic forms. He is not alone in thinking this. In collaboration with Professor Beunkers and students of the faculty for Air and Space Travel at TU-Delft he has developed a technical method intended to optimize the realisation of so-called Blobs architecture. Blobs officially stands for Binary Large Objects and is concerned with computer generated fluid architecture. The TU/e and SKOR invited Jurgen Bey, Ronald Cornelissen and Gabriel Lester to join students of TU Eindhoven in a workshop to design a ‘Blob’, which hopefully will serve as a functional pavilion for new media on campus at TU Eindhoven.

‘Lemmy’ was developed in collaboration with Ivo Vrouwe, Sander Harmsel, Oswald Verbeij and Jingyi Dai.

Arno Pronk, werkzaam in Eindhoven, ontwikkelde samen met Professor Beunkers en studenten van de faculteit Lucht-en Ruimtevaart van de TU-Delft, de blowingstructure method, een technische methode die optimale realisering van de zogeheten Blobs-architectuur mogelijk zou maken.
Dat vormde de aanleiding voor de TU Eindhoven en SKOR om Jurgen Bey, Ronald Cornelissen en Gabriel Lester uit te nodigen om in een workshop met studenten van de TU Eindhoven een Blob te ontwerpen, met als beoogd resultaat een functioneel paviljoen voor uiteenlopende kunstprojecten op de campus van de TU Eindhoven.

‘Lemmy’ is tot stand gekomen in samenwerking met Ivo Vrouwe, Sander Harmsel, Oswald Verbeij en Jingyi Dai.
